Two working groups continued their collaborative activities over the past year. The Children’s Human Rights Education Network published several papers and presented the results of its seed projects at ECER 2025. It also held its third international meeting in Belgrade. Meanwhile, the “Participation Rights” working group published a comparative paper examining the challenges of translating the term “participation” across languages and exploring how its meaning varies in different national contexts.
During ECER 2025, the Network’s programme was both dense and coherent, reflecting a high degree of collaboration among its members. Notably, a special call for papers was issued on “Reimagining the Aims of Education Through Children’s Rights: Critical Perspectives for Uncertain Times.” This initiative generated substantial interest and led to two well-attended sessions at ECER.
In addition, three symposia were organised, each emerging from previous discussions within the Network:
- Children’s rights in early childhood education
- Ethical challenges and complexities in children’s rights research
- How universal is children’s human rights education in curricula in Europe?
A dinner organised by the Network brought together conference participants interested in its research focus, offering space for informal exchange and networking at the close of the conference.
During the Network meeting, a new team of co-convenors was nominated, including a new Early Career Researcher. The 2025 convenor team now includes Jenna Gillett-Swan, Lotem Perry-Hazan, Gabriela Martinez-Sainz, and Chiara Monta (ECR position), alongside Zoe Moody, who was elected as Link Convenor in 2024. Special thanks were extended to Ann Quennerstedt, past Link Convenor, for her exceptional service. Ann has been part of the convenor team since 2013 and has played a pivotal role in shaping the Network’s development over the past twelve years. Outgoing convenor Ioanna Palaiologou was also warmly thanked for her valuable contributions and longstanding commitment to the Network.
