  • It is also planned to hold the EERA NW3 doctoral summer school in conjunction with the conference. 10-12th of June 2019. EERA funding has been approved.
  • Natasha Ziebell is convenor for the EERA Emerging Researchers Group and will look for stronger linkages between NW3 and the emerging researchers in the curriculum field.
  • Plans were discussed for a capacity building workshop on the Tuesday morning of ECER2019 in Hamburg. We considered to organize tables with specific innovative research methods, e.g. network analysis, Corpus analysis, use of social media data, design-based research. Majella Dempsey and Dominik Dvorak will draft a first plan.

4. Publication opportunities

  • As of September 15, a new editorship stepped in for the Curriculum Journal. Mark Priestley and Stavroula Philippou will be chief editors. The team of associate editors consist of Claire Sinnema, Daniel Alvunger, David Leat, Joseph Smith, Kathryn Hibbert, Tiina Soini and Nienke Nieveen.
  • Bloomsbury seems to be interested in publishing a curriculum handbook. Mark Priestley put forward some of the current ideas regarding themes and chapters. Plans are to launch the book in ECER 2021.

5. Collaborations with other networks

  • EuroAcs (European Association of Curriculum Studies)
  • Stirling Network for Curriculum Studies
  • Cidree
  • If we find a need for it we may consider to look for networking funding through COST. The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) provides funding for the creation of research networks, called COST Actions. These networks offer an open space for collaboration among scientists across Europe (and beyond) and thereby give impetus to research advancements and innovation. For more information: www.cost.eu

6. Website

Our website http://curriculuminnovationbyschoolsandteachers.mixxt.org/   .... has been closed…. We decided to set up a WhatsApp group instead. Please send your mobile number to Nienke Nieveen (n.nieveen(at)slo.nl), so she can add you to the group.

7. Honorary Network Membership

We celebrated Jan van den Akker's honorary network membership. Jan deserves the award because of numerous relevant and substantial contributions to the network: the founding co-father of the network, advising in future directions of the network, extending the network's collaborations, being active in summer schools ran by the network and by reviewing paper proposals, chairing conference meetings and acting as a discussant during symposia. The award shows also our appreciation for his continuing work in addressing important international curriculum issues and the provision of (conceptual) assistance to (young) curriculum researchers.

The "Honorary Network Membership" values the contributions of a convenor in the context of a network's history. Being an honorary network member has no duties, but includes the possibility of paying the reduced ECER fee available to members of EERA member associations. Honoray Network Membership is granted by Council based on suggestions put forward by EERA networks.

8. Any other business?

We discussed how we could attract more attendees:

  • ERG needs to be mentioned in the network description to attract also emerging researchers
  • We discussed that we should drop the innovation in our name to make clear that our network has a broader curriculum interest. This change will need to be approved in April with the Convenors during the Seminar.
  • We agreed on being more proactive in asking our colleagues to join ECER. We can also look in the program for delegates who we would like to cooperate with in symposia.

9. Closure

NW 03 runs a mailing list and invites researchers to join. To join the mailing list, send a blank message to nw03-subscribe(at)lists.eera-ecer.de .
