Network Activities

We organized a digital workshop on ESE Research and Policy in May 11 this year, following up on the opening event at ECER 2026 that focused on the research-policy interface 50 years after the Belgrade Charter, a key policy document within environmental education. In the digital workshop, we discussed key policy documents that addressed environmental education as a vital, international field for both the practice of and the research on environmental education, exploring both the potential and limitations of policy documents for educational practices. We also revisited another key policy document within our field, the Tbilisi Declaration (1977), discussing its legacy in a contemporary perspective. Almost 70 network members participated in this digital workshop. We plan to continue organizing one digital workshop within the network each year. 

NW30 has regular contact with the journal Environmental Education Research, and its editor, Alan Reid, attended this year's conference and contributed to the opening session. 

In addition to regular newsletters to the network and tasks connected with the ECER conference, the convenor group maintains good communication with the network through its email list and LinkedIn group. The group also continues to invite emerging researchers to present their completed doctoral theses through its YouTube channel and LinkedIn group.

We will work on the NW30 ‘Guidelines for judgement of ESER proposals’ in the convenor group. We will then share the updated guidelines with the larger network. We plan to employ the revised guidelines when preparing for ECER 2027 and will invite reviewers to an online meeting prior to the reviewing process.
