Network Meeting 2018, Bolzano

Minutes of network 8 meeting 2018

The meeting focused on the following:

  1. Network intro (objectives and research field, link conveners, affiliation with Schools for Health in Europe, invitation to join the network mailing list)
  2. Reflections on HER in Italy
  3. Network title, feedback on ECER 2018, ideas for special issues, and network collaborations

After the network introduction Denis Francesconi gave an informative presentation on the region and city of Bolzano. There after he invited Cristina Palmieri and her colleague from Milano University (organized in the SIPED-care group working with pedagogical professional development related to health and care), to say a few words about their work within health education.

The main part of the discussion concerned a suggestion from the current and previous link-convener to include wellbeing in the network title, motivated with the growing emphasis of presentations on school wellbeing in the network. Several suggestions were discussed, hereunder: “Health and wellbeing education”, “Wellbeing and health education” and “Health and wellbeing education in schools”. Different arguments for and against the name change were discussed, and it was decided that the matter will be discussed further in the network convenor group.

In relation to general session quality at ECER 2018 it was noted that while in many sessions the number of participants were around 30, the room was set up for max 25 people. Two ideas for special issues in the Journal of Health Education were discussed: “Leadership in school health promotion” (suggested pre-conference by Kevin Dadaczynski), and “School food” (suggested by Monica Carlsson). The meeting was concluded with an update by Didier Jourdain on the current developments in relation to the UNESCO chair on Health and Education.
