01 SES 10 A, Practices of Teacher Induction (Part I): Collaborative Practices of Mentoring
Symposium: to be continued in 01 SES 11 A
Contribution
Paedeia Café is a new model for organizing collaborative group mentoring. It has been influenced by the Finnish PGM model and the Swedish ‘learning dialogue’ model (‘lärande dialog’). Paedeia Café has been introduced by the European Paedeia project, which aims at developing new practices for connecting teacher studies and working life. The Paedeia Cafés combine offers a forum for newly qualified teachers and students at the final stages of teacher education to share ideas and learn together. The activities not only allow sharing experience and tacit knowledge, but also create a platform for new knowledge. In the Paedeia Cafés, teacher’s profession is examined and professional identity work is promoted. Paedeia Cafés were set up in three of the project partner countries: Turkey, Sweden and Finland. The leading vision for the project was set together under the same theoretical umbrella but the organization of practical activities and working methods vary. This presentation brings out the practices of Paedeia Cafés in different countries. Some of the main activities and practices are descripted and the roles of different participants are summarized. Each country will view their practical procedures through the structure of practice architecture; sayings, doings and relatings.
