Contribution

We are in a time of great change within the educational approach of schools of music. These changes are due to new social needs, and we realize that this also implies a change in the processes of teaching and learning.

Therefore from the Staff of the Municipal School of Music of Tona we consider a change of focus in our educational action.

After searching several ways, we are thinking that work Pedagogy of the instrumental group could be a good way to carry out this project. This methodology, based on cooperative learning works the music instrument in small groups two / three students per class who learn from each other through peer interaction.

This methodology is intended that learning and knowledge is constructed jointly by the teacher and students in the group, in a context that facilitates shared responsibility and interpersonal skills, how to communicate, organize and make decisions.

We wonder therefore if using the pedagogy of teaching instrumental group can better meet the expectations of learning, socialization, integration and adaptation to the needs of our students.

The objectives we consider are in-depth knowledge of the teaching group and whether their application can enhance learning, socialization and integration of our students.

We want to see the impact that you apply this methodology and the results can offer our students. This will help us assess the feasibility and potential of using cooperative learning in a specific music schools like ours.

Method

The methodology used, clearly leans towards the qualitative paradigm as the social reality of our context, cannot be reduced to a set of variables, since no subject is identical. According to Bresler, 2000, quoted by Mota, 2010, referring to the perspective of qualitative research: mais do que conhecer o mundo directamente, sentimo-lo, interpretamo-lo e explicamo-lo a nós próprios” We understand as a qualitative methodology, which generates forms of empathic understanding which gives a kind of ambiguity that denotative more evocative, more plausible that certain descriptive and interpretive. The methods used in qualitative research we turn initially to the exploratory nature since it encompasses methods for collecting and classifying information We need to develop instruments to confirm the observations and preparation of questionnaires and interviews.

Expected Outcomes

We don’t have conclusions yet because we are on the initial phase of research but, we have good expectations. With this research we aim to generate a change, innovation in educational practices of music classroom teaching to adapt to new musical learning and social needs in our context. We believe that carrying out this research will give us the possibility to enrich us both we and our students. We are sure that as teachers we can improve our teaching, and acquire greater security, and our students come from different social and cultural inadvertently made some very valid contributions which must be taken into account
